Hey guys,

I'm posting this post because I know there's a few student bands around.

Alright basically long story short:
They will be holding an audition for any bands to perform, solo, duet, acapella, full fledged band. If you already have what it takes to perform at rock night and are interested in exposing your band to perhaps a greater audience both in Singapore and the region, then this is the audition and event you've been waiting for.

Register at the link below and then come on down to NUS on 28th September to audition for a chance to perform at a regional and national level. Don't give up this chance. Yes Jiexiang, I am looking at you. =D

Also, spread this information to members of band that had performed at rock night, especially if they're interested in bringing their bands to a greater exposure. Ask them come NUS and support us too ^^

For those of you that are bored with studying for your exams, here's 2 applications that you can play around with:

Basically, the applications are about sound waves (duhzzz.. this is a PA blog rite?) or waves in general. Anyway, with this applications, you can better understand why putting subwoofers apart is a bad idea.

1. Simulate putting subwoofers apart by choosing the "two speakers" option, and set the frequency to very low.
2. Click on the "Add detector" button (for the 2nd application) or the "listener" button (for the 1st application).
3. By moving the detector/listener around, you will notice large areas of "dead spots" aka destructive interference. This will be shown on the detector when the amplitude of the curve reduces significantly, or when you can't hear anything much.
4. Second observation is that there is a v-shaped area in between the 2 speakers that are noticeably louder than the rest of the area. This is termed as "power alley" and will cause uneven sounding bass.
5. By shifting the frequency upwards, the above observations can still be seen/heard but they are not very obvious. Hence for full-range speakers which produce higher frequency sounds, they are spaced apart for wider coverage (at the expense of the destructive interference).

I know most of you won't bother clicking the link (except Zp maybe.. haha). Just to clarify, I'm not a no-lifer that goes on the Internet to search for such stuff (unlike some others =x), just happen that I'm taking a "sound in our daily life" elective so I might as well enrich your lives too. =D

June Camp is just round the corner! (: It is on 9 - 11 JUNE. Reporting time is at 8 am for everybody, and 7.30 am for all SH2s at the Amphitheatre. We will break camp approximately at 2 pm on Saturday, and we will probably be going to Seoul Garden @ Farrer Park after! :D Camp fee is $8.

For seniors coming back: BBQ is on Fri night approximately 5-8 pm and Handover is on Sat approximately noon time (:

Hey all! :D

March Camp will be on the 17-18^th March. We will meet at 8am at the Amphi! :D After all the activities and lunch in school, we will move off to our next destination – Aloha Changi! We will break camp about 12 the next day at Aloha Changi, and we will probably go out after! :D Camp fee will be $10 as of now!

Haha the 10/11 exco treated samuel to lunner today :) to thank him for coming down to conduct extra training sessions for us. And it was the second time all 7 excos gathered together for a meal haha!

Loads of retarded stuff were said today. Esp our pres... damn extremely retarded man.

Everyone laughed till we our stomach hurt even samuel too HAHAHA!

We were supposed to mug together after the lunner but in the end, we just kept talking and laughing non-stop. It was fun though :)

I just wanna express my gratitude to everyone who contributed for NDC today xD

Keith&Genie at the CD section.

JieXiang at the mics and amps system.

Audrina&JianYi at the audience side to help monitoring the sound quality.

Hazel, Eugene Lim, Shi Min, Sean for helping out to carry stuff down or back up to control.

And last but not least, our Da Lao Ren, Samuel and Zhi Ping for helping us during full dress rehearsal and the actual event. If it not were for you two I might have not learnt so much.

Really thanks a lot for sacrificing your time to come down and help. Overall I think we responded swiftly to all the problems and sorry if I'm not a very experienced I/C >.<

Anyway, one of the DAS is under repair by Mr. Ang. Something went wrong with it and I've got feedback (not THAT "feedback") by some teachers and students that the sound quality today was not at its best. So yea, I think we need to work on that more.

So I think that's about it. Enjoy your long weekend peeps. xD

time for an overdue post. had trouble penning down my thoughts, partly because of my lethargy for the lack of sleep and perhaps i had not wrap my head around how fast things had progressed.

i remember clearly last year when i took over. It was a surreal moment. 1 year later and its handover once more. and it remains surreal. A few weeks prior to handover I found myself wanting this day not to come. I am not too sure why, but perhaps because I wanted more memories with my excos.

TO GRACE:

I think this 1 year we really bonded very well. From handover in '09 to handover in '10 I learnt a lot from you. I must really thank you for being there for me when things got rough. All those random jokes will remain as awesome memories i will take with me even after we graduate. I must also say your temper became much better le la as compared to last year. I think somehow, you kept us grounded on what has to be done and that really helped us move forward as an exco, as a cca. okay la other stuff i put in letter k.

haha my gp okay de horh. i just enjoy pronouncing your name wrongly. XD anyway you are a damn awesome secretary!! Other the fact that you can be blur sometimes, you have done an awesome job! like contact list and stuff always done on time. really makes the running of PA much smoother.

haha okay honestly, last year handover i not too sure what u are like coz yeah nvr really see you before until june camp. anyway i think we really started bonding when we came up with ur nickname, it is awesome right the nick? totally fits you. haha anyway i feel u fulfilled your duties as a CCO awesomely. haha. I know sometimes we got stress you la but i felt that you stepped up and really did well. i think you must also thank PA for helping to make the $60 you pay for KM worthwhile coz you keep checking everyday :P

HIHIHI i am finally a junior again. a junior member of NJ PAA :D the club that i've wanted to join ever since the 06/07 batch graduated.

I've stepped down and am no longer the president anymore. Honestly, i feel relieved. I will still miss the times working together with everyone of you. But, it's time i leave and pass on this job to the juniors. One year is just enough (:

I remember the times when i was young and small in ip1, when i was amazed by how PA is of such high importance in the school, how passionate my seniors were, and how small and cosy this family is. I wanted to play a part, i wanted to contribute. So i said, "I'm going to be the pro-est cable coiler at the end of my 4 years!"

But PA was not all about coiling cables and having fun. PA is about service. This is something i truly understood only in my 3rd year. OK i kept harping on this ~

PA is what accompanied me through my 4 tough years in NJ. I can't imagine how life in NJ would have been if mel and i were not gay and joined PA for lame reasons. Throughout the 3.5 years, I've seen many batches come and go, i've met many different kinds of people, whether i liked or not. But all of us were here for the common goal of serving the school and because we love this family, we want to contribute in some way.

I may not have joined for the right reason, but over the years, i've been inspired, i've loved, i've hated, i've endured and i've grown.

SO, TO MY EXCOS 0809:
I would have died in PA without anyone of you. As i've always believed, everyone single member in the EXCO is equally important. I really respect all of you. We've been through so much together although it's just one year. All the problems we've encountered, all the fun we had, and all the memories we've forged. Although there might have been differences and unhappiness along the way, one thing i'm definitely sure of, is the passion and love we all have for PA. All of us want the best for PA. We came from different paths, met in PA, and now we're going our separate ways. But i'm sure everyone of you will remember the times we had in PA and how much we have grown over this one year. I hope this is just a start and you will go on to achieve much more in life. I'm sure even many years later, you will not forget the times in PA and you will remember how it has made you who you are.

TO THE GRADUATING BATCH:
MUG HARD!!!!!!! we've all contributed to PA equally and i love all of you because the EXCO would have died without you! I am grateful that PA has people, who have stayed so passionate throughout. 1- No elaborate design at the front cos we believe in discreet working like who we are, silent workers behind the scene

Grats! This event was quite a success! Thanks to each and every crew for contributing, without you guys speech day would not have been possible! (ok its cheesy xD) Esp for the canteen crew, tahan the heat until uall almost melt. Good job everyone!

I wanna add that i hope everyone has learned something from doing events. Learning takes place everywhere, esp when you're doing event coz you'll get to have first hand experience! Hope that everyone had fun too, since this is one of our not-so-serious events where u can have fun laughing at the councilors (hsiangwei!) while doing PA. =D

To the others who signed up but did not get in, fret not! You got plenty of opportunities, esp the juniors! Just spam his phone and your chance will come. Its easier than striking lottery xD
